Maine is world class in the summer and Bangor is center stage. Situated a little over an hour of two of the most sought after summer destinations in the world, Bar Harbor and Camden. Where some of the wealthiest families and famous
personalities choose to “summer”. Bangor offers reasonably priced homes and accommodations with access to the best that Maine has to offer. Overlooking the mighty Penobscot River,
our everyday life is enhanced with the natural beauty of the water and the wildlife that enhabits it. In this great valley we are surrounded by bodies of water and within moments of work and home we can enjoy lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, marshland and ocean. Where else can you leave work
and be kyaking within steps of the office. Only 15 minutes outside of Bangor, Bartley enjoys himself at Lake
Lucerne known to some as Phillips Lake. One of the great things about Maine is the preservation of public access, you don’t have to own a place to enjoy the water, just drop your canoe at any public landing, and off you go. If you are a land lover it is
equally as nice, we have the Bangoe City Forest, and many City Parks, close enough to
enjoy during lunch. Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park are both close enough to day trip. You may even encounter someone at the end of their Appalachian Trail hike at the top of Mt. Katahdin as I did…..what a thrill.
So you see….There is not a better place in the world than Bangor and it’s surroundings in the Summer…………. and Bart knows how to enjoy himself. Here is Bart Enjoying Lucerne lake during our hottest weather this summer. He suggest a floating frisbee at the lake or a walk on the bridges…..what ever you do enjoy Bangor and all that it has to offer!

As our world warms up we are all starting to get out, to exercise and enjoy the fresh air. Bart and I are getting ready for the for the summer. The long days…..the lake……..the barbecues………..and the hot steamy weather. Those days that we have been dreaming about while the snow was piling up all winter.

This year the signs of spring seem sweeter than ever, and jogging the streets of our beautiful city they are everywhere. It seems that before the snow and cold weather has lestened it’s grip on us, the fragile sprouts of the crocus, tulips and daffodils are popping up everywhere.

Now a golden Retriever is always aware of his surroundings but it is almost impossible to take him for a walk this time of year. The treasures that have been distributed by all of his counterparts this long winter are finally thawing and the odors are endless. Now Bart is pretty territorial, so he has a big job ahead of him. After having sniffed out the shrubs the other day he finally made it to our little patch of crocus. He probably would not have found them so interesting if there hadn’t been a Bacon treat (from his friend Rabyn) lying next to them. But I thought that the photo opportunity would be great.

So Bart and I recommend that you get out, take a walk and enjoy the best time of year!

This was the topic of conversation between Bart and I over the past few days. He really didn’t want to go out unless there was an incentive. The necessary trips were few and far between and always took convincing. I can’t blame him……I didn’t even want to stand on the porch to keep an eye on him. Of course he has it figured out….if he goes outside then he is going to get one of those delectable bacon delights that his friend Rabyn bought him for Christmas. But mention a run, or a walk….and he is all over it, even at 6 degree with light snow. These outings would not be possible had we not visited Epic sports this fall for our winter sportswear.

Here we are in front of Epic Sorts late this fall while Bart tries to tell me which items will keep us warm. With gear like my Mountain Hard Wear down jacket, Smart Wool running pants, the Under Armour shirt, and my Hot Fingers mittens….I am ready to go.

Thank you Epic Sports!

Visit Epic Sports online at epicsportsgear.com or in historic downtown at 6 Central Street

Situated northwest of the city and consisting of over 650 acres it borders the Bangor Land Trust, the Orono Bog, and the Penjajawok Marsh. It is a wildlife corridor that is home to many species of rare birds and animals.

Enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, snow shoeing and all non-motorized activities on miles of maintained trails. Enjoy the Orono Bog on the 4200 ft boardwalk that allows you to explore without eroding the bog or getting your feet wet, the boardwalk is also accessible to wheelchairs. It is a great way way to spend quality time with the family, or a sancturary to enjoy in solitude. The park is dog friendly but many of the areas require them to be leased, the boardwalk does not allow dogs. Please visit the websites below to see all rules.

All of this only minutes away from home and work. Situated on Central Street just before Epic Sports is the Central Street Farmhouse.

Started during the summer of 2010 by Bangor natives Betsy and Zeth Lundy, specializing in beer, wine and CHEESE making supplies. They are also offering fresh dairy products and artisan cheeses, toping it off with an eco-baby section with cloth diapers and lots of other hard to find items. Of course Bart is most excited to start his new hobby of making cheese, but he also learned that there are classes being offered in wine making, beer brewing, cloth diapering, and so much more. It is a new and exciting Bangorism in the making!!!!!!! Take a look at www.centralstreetfarmhouse.com

Well, we do have a sulky race track, we do have some beautiful horse farms on the out skirts of town, so like Kentucky, we have horse fans, too.

Your Hosts

And since we all like to socialize in our town, Bob and I have been hosting Kentucky Derby parties for the past 3 years. So we thought to ourselves, “How do we turn this fun into something that would benefit a local charity?” We print invitations, we open up the doors and people dress up and you would swear you were in Louisville!

John and Linda Rohmann

Great hats, great outfits and great fun! All proceeds this year went to benefit The Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono.

For years, we had attended a party at the home of Peter and Diane Hoff to benefit the Fogler library. 3 years ago, the Hoff’s were renovating and we offered our home for a place to have the event. We co-hosted the event for the first two years. This was the first year without the Hoff’s so we decided to benefit our passion The Collins Center for the Arts.

This year the weather was beautiful in Bangor (unlike that torrential rain at Churchill Downs), so beautiful fashions were abound and of course the signature “Hat Parade”!

"And they are off!"

People tend to gather around the pool table to watch the big screen TV and the energy is amazing it was a wonderful time and we would love to thank all that contributed!
